September 22, 2025 – Des Moines, Iowa – The Iowa Bankers Association (IBA) proudly recognized William C. Benz of Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in Centerville and Larry Piatt of Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in Centerville for their remarkable 50+ years of service in the banking industry. The honors were presented during the IBA Annual Convention on September 22 in Des Moines, where both were among 22 distinguished bankers to receive the prestigious 50-Year Banker designation.
“Each year, it’s inspiring to celebrate the dedication and impact of these long-serving professionals,” said IBA President and CEO Adam Gregg. “Bill and Larry exemplify the values of community banking—commitment, leadership, and service.”
William C. Benz began his 53-year career at Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in 1967, retiring as Senior Vice President in 2005 and continuing to serve on the Board of Directors until 2020. A driving force behind economic development in Appanoose County, Benz helped establish the Appanoose Industrial Corporation and the Appanoose Economic Development Corporation. Notably, in 1985, these efforts led to the recruitment of Wells Manufacturing and Rubbermaid to our community, resulting in the creation of nearly 600 jobs in Appanoose County. His community involvement extended to numerous local boards, and his legacy continues to shape the area’s growth.
Larry Piatt has been a cornerstone of Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, where his leadership and dedication have helped guide the bank and support the Centerville community for five decades. One of his most cherished volunteer activities has been with "Trees Forever," a program where the bank many times subsidized half the cost of trees, making it financially feasible for many community members to plant new trees. His commitment to customer service and community values has made a lasting impact on both the institution and the people it serves. Larry still serves on the bank’s board giving valuable insights and guidance.
The Iowa Bankers Association is proud to honor these two exceptional individuals for their lifelong contributions to Iowa’s banking industry and their unwavering dedication to their communities. Both William (Bill) and Larry’s longstanding commitment to Iowa Trust and Savings Bank is a testament to their community support and industry service.
Renate Deininger, President and CEO of Iowa Trust and Savings Bank said, “Bill and Larry’s leadership and dedication have been invaluable to the bank’s success. It has been a privilege to work with them. I congratulate them on this amazing achievement.”
